History

SunFlorida Realty was founded in 1982 by Phil Cloninger in the then-sleepy town of Oviedo, Florida. At the time, city’s population was around 8,000, and there was only one stoplight (at the intersection of 434 and 426, near the Townhouse Restaurant).

A graduate of the Florida Institute of Technology (now the University of Central Florida), Phil cultivated SunFlorida Realty into the top producing office in the Orlando area in the 1990s, with over 50 well-trained agents selling in 8 counties.

The company is now run by Megan Sladek, the oldest of his 4 daughters. A native of Oviedo (and graduate of Oviedo High School), Megan was studying to become an attorney at the University of Florida when her father passed away. After giving real estate a try, she discovered that she genuinely loved helping people find a place to call home.

With no prior knowledge of the way things had always been done in the real estate industry, Megan set about revitalizing SunFlorida Realty to reflect the changing technology and trends around her. She eliminated most paper files (in favor of electronic signatures and records). Then the office transitioned from its large 1980’s facility to the city’s oldest standing structure, the Lake Charm Memorial Chapel. This space, which is shared with a local non-profit, reflects SunFlorida Realty’s longstanding ties to the Oviedo community and the groups that are interested in making it a better place to live.
